FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is VoIP:

VoIP is the abbreviation for ‘Voice over Internet Protocol’. The very simple explanation is that ‘VoIP’ is the process of transmitting telephone voice audio via internet data. In the olden days, telephone voice audio was transmitted over copper landline cables. The copper cable infrastructure was installed and maintained by Telkom in South Africa. Telkom is no longer supporting or maintaining the copper network. The number one problem with copper cables is that criminals are uplifting the cables due to the copper resell value. Thanks to the wonders of modern technology, VoIP allows your business to continue with telephone voice calls, without the need for copper landlines.

What are the costs:

Our high-quality VoIP solution is subscription-based. We need to take into account the number of extensions and handsets that you need as well as the style of handsets that your business needs, (desktop handsets or cordless handsets), we will also need to confirm if any networking equipment is needed before we can commit to a price. Contact us for a no-obligation proposal.

What is a Hosted PABX (also frequently referred to as a Cloud PABX):

Instead of having an old-fashioned traditional PABX installed onsite at your office, (normally in your server room), whereby the landline telephone cables are connected to it, a Hosted PABX is installed on a cloud-based server. Your business is connected to the Hosted PABX via your LAN (Local Area Network) and a secure internet connection.

Can I use a gateway to convert my current PABX system to VoIP?

No, don’t do this. The call quality will be terrible and, you will be miserable. You won’t have any friends and you won’t have any clients. You need a Tier 1 Carrier-grade network for your VoIP to be crystal clear as well as high-quality Yealink IP handsets.

What internet connectivity is required for VoIP?

Fibre and fixed LTE internet connectivity will work. We can audit your current system and advise if it will work, or advise if there is a better and even more cost-effective option for your connectivity requirements.

Who supplies the internet connectivity?

We can use your existing Internet connectivity or we can do a feasibility study to see if we can supply a better service at a better price than your existing service provider.
